BIDA engages with Singapore investors

BIDA has joined a virtual event titled ‘Business Opportunities and Investment Insights in Bangladesh’ organised by Singapore Business Federation, the country’s apex business chamber. The webinar held on Aug 27 was attended by over 121 private sector participants, who were from the island nation. Potential investors from the United States, United Arab Emirates, Japan, China and India were also present.

The opening remarks were delivered by Bangladesh High Commissioner to Singapore H.E. Md. Mustafizur Rahman. Tay Lian Chew, Enterprise Singapore’s Global Markets Director (South Asia), provided insights of the activities of Singapore companies doing business in Bangladesh. BIDA Executive Chairman Md. Sirazul Islam joined the Public Sector Plenary Session: The New Normal and Growth Priorities in Bangladesh today. The session was moderated by FBCCI President Sheikh Fazle Fahim. Presentations on Bangladesh’s tax regime, salient features of National budget FY 2020-21, key compliances on VAT were discussed, infrastructure investments were delivered. BIDA Director Md. Ariful Huq delivered a presentation on business opportunities & investment Policies in Bangladesh. Singapore is one of the major economies with steady FDI inflows to Bangladesh. In terms of FDI stock, Singapore is fourth largest with $1272.02 million invested as of December, 2019. Power, textile and trading are currently the major sectors in which Singapore businesses are invested.
