BIDA Executive Chairman, Kazi M. Aminul Islam; while expressing his views during the Strategic orientation session on Investment Promotion and Facilitation.
A strategic orientation session on Investment Promotion and Facilitation was jointly organized by Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) and the World Bank Group (WBG) for the officials of BIDA on Saturday, 15th September, 2018 at the Amari Hotel, Dhaka. The session was chaired by Mr. Kazi M Aminul Islam, Hon’ble Executive Chairman, BIDA. Mr. Armando Heilbron, Investment Promotion Workstream Leader, MTI, WBG presented a synopsis of global best practices and tools in delivering effective investment promotion and facilitation functions by top IPAs around the world. In his presentation, Mr. Armando enlightened the audience on how other countries are adopting to the global challenges, changes and customizing their services and promotional activities to attract more Foreign Direct Investments (FDIs). He quoted “Investment promotion is not about attracting funds only, but it is about attracting, establishing, retaining, expanding, diversifying, marrying, investors for the long term”.
Also present in the session was the Chief Executive Officer of Public Private Partnership Authority (PPPA), Mr. Syed Afsor H. Uddin. During his presentation describing the roles of PPPA, Mr. Afsor said “We must make sure that our organizations are branded not just locally but internationally, we are acknowledged to be the best. Whenever anyone hears BIDA, they must think that it is “The Organization” in the country that champions Investment Promotion”.
While concluding the session, Chairman of BIDA, Mr. Aminul Islam said’ “In the days to come, part of our vision is to create more dynamic environment for the IPAs to work and be more effective and achieve our mission”.
Attendees at the session also included senior officials from different departments of Bangladesh Bank, BEZA, BEPZA and Bangladesh Hi-Tech Park Authority.
